Some have asked where we came up with the idea that "God is happy." We share this Good News directly from Paul's writings to Timothy. He said he was entrusted with "the glorious gospel of the blessed God." (1Ti. 1:11). The word "blessed" in this verse comes from the Greek "makarios" and Thayer defines it "blessed" and "happy." It is not difficult to understand how God can be happy, when we understand that "Known to God are all his works from the beginning of the ages." (Act 15:18). That is, God has always seen his creation, as "VERY GOOD!" (Gen. 1:31). The Scripture declares, "All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations. All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him-those who cannot keep themselves alive. A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall yet be born, that he has finished it." (Psalms 22:25-31). |
